Hi all, Well we are gearing up to dig our foundation, it has been a busy time getting our windows ordered. We have brought on a new sponsor with True Foam, we got our septic approval which led way to getting our building permit. so off we go to the races. WE DIG Tomorrow, Monday Oct 3rd 2011!!!!!!!!
After much debate, we are not only going to try and achieve the Passive House Standard, but also try get our heating load per square meter down to the amount that is deliverable through the HRV system. (8.9W/M2, the Passive House standard is 15W/M2) making this house the first house (that we know of) in Atlantic Canada, possibly Canada without the need for any conventional heating system!!! whether we reach the goal will require us to weigh all the options, and make each choice in the house very carefully.
A typically constructed North American House has heating needs of roughly 150W/M2 while the average R2000 construction has a heat loads of roughly 90W/m2 so as you see getting it down to below 15W/m2 is a challenge in the first place.
We are very excited as we pursue our goal of building the first certified passive house in New Brunswick and among the first in Canada.
Here we go.
